Battle of the Cojuangcos : Noynoy Vs. Gibo for President

By: Reggie Balcos (September 17, 2009)

The incoming 2010 Elections seems really tight, I mean, except for Erap ( I think he should be considered as a nuisance candidate. Hehehe… )

This September is really crazy… with all the decisions being made. Earlier this month Noynoy announced his candidacy and yesterday, Gilbert Teodoro was elected to be the the standard bearer of Lakas-Kampi beating Bayani Fernando with a big margin (I pity Bayani for looking so stupid.. he's not prepared.. tsk tsk tsk.)

Noynoy and Gibo are two of the youngest candidates to run for Presidency aged 49 and 45 respectively (let’s just ignore Chiz Escudero (39), he’s just another nuisance candidate.. hehe). For me personally, they seem to be the most capable leader to run our poor country, hopefully, being young and idealistic for that matter, they’re really sincere and genuine with their aim to help the filipino people. Well, ofcourse there’s a little personal ambition behind, but its not that bad.. really.

So what’s the common denominator between Noynoy and Gibo (except that they’re both middle aged man and balding.. hehe)? They share the same ancestors, atleast on their mother side, Cojuangco. Hence, the title of my blog : Battle of the Cojuangcos….. (this is me trying to be creative hehe.)

Noynoy Vs. Gibo

Round 1: Ateneo Vs. La Salle … (hahaha.. hanggang dito ba naman!?)

Actually this got me started on this topic. Noynoy Aquino studied in Ateneo from primary school until he finished AB Economics (wow.. loyalty award) while Gilbert Teodoro graduated from La Salle taking up BS Commerce Major in Financial Institutions. Although Gibo continued his Law studies in UP (he topped the Bar Exams 1989). He then completed his masters degree at the Harvard Law School and was given the first honorary Doctor of Laws degree by West Negros University of Bacolod.. wow.. that was something huh?! Let’s summarize then:

Noynoy
Ateneo de Manila University - AB Economics (1977-1981)

Gibo
Harvard Law School  - Master of Laws , 1996 — 1997
University of the Philippines - Bachelor of Laws , 1985 — 1989 (Dean’s Medal for Academic Excellence)
De La Salle University - BS MFI Commerce , 1981 — 1985

Winner : Gibo  (Wooo hooo Animo La Salle!!! BEAT ATENEO ANIMO LA SALLE!!!)

Round 2: Gee your hair looks terrific challenge.

Gilbert TeodoroNoynoy Aquino

There’s a rumor that these guys does not consume shampoo that much.. well I think it’s a good thing some how the toiletry budget of the president will be adjusted. Hehehe.

For a middle aged man, does a sky high hairline would be one hell of a problem?! Who cares!? it’s shouldn’t be a problem, you don’t need hair to run a country. :D

Winner : Noynoy (according to our sources, Noynoy consumes less shampoo. Hahaha :D)

** What’s with the Cojuangcos and their hair line anyway? Hehe. Ok naman buhok ni Kris ah!

Round 3:    1st District of Tarlac vs. 3rd District of Tarlac

House of Representative : 1st District of Tarlac 1998 - 2007

Noynoy was elected to the House of Representatives in 1998, representing the 3rd  District of Tarlac. He won re-election in 2001 and 2004, serving until 2007.

During his time in Congress, he served on numerous committees:
(11th Congress)
- the Public Order and Security
- Transportation and Communications
- Agriculture
- Banks and Financial Intermediaries
- Peoples’ Participation
- Suffrage and Electoral Reforms
- Appropriations
- Natural Resources
- Trade and Industry committees

(12th Congress)
- the Civil
- Political and Human Rights
- Good Government
- Public Order and Security
- Inter-Parliamentary Relations and Diplomacy committees

(13th Congress)
- Banks and Financial Intermediaries
- Energy
- Export Promotion
- Public Order and Safety committees

He was also Deputy Speaker from November 2004 to February 2006.

House of Representative : 3rd District of Tarlac 1998 - 2007
Gibo was elected as 1st District Representative in 1998, and extended his term for nine years.

While in congress, Gibo was a proponent of human rights, economic development, and progress.

Winner: Looks like Noynoy is keeping himself busy. Not bad for a 49 year old bachelor.

Round 4: Opposition (Corrupt) vs. Administration (Mas - Corrupt)

Over the years we have been handled by corrupt officials who have no other agenda but to gain power and money from their positions. Well, not all former presidents are corrupt as they claim, former president Corazon Aquino, as they say were never corrupt, are we supposed to applaud her for that?! I mean, aren’t they suppose to be that way from the start?

Anyway, Noynoy is carrying the name of the Aquinos, the late senator, Ninoy, who sacrificed his life (btw, what a dumb move) to fight for democracy and the late president, Cory, who fought and gave democracy to the filipino people (while wearing a yellow dress for that matter) and through her career Cory is known to be the only president who is not corrupt *citation needed hehe. So this is one hell of good thing right?! I mean, you would not expect Noynoy to disrespect his parents’ legacy to the filipino people by becoming a corrupt official himself, so this is one thing to consider.

As for Gibo, well I don’t really know him so let’s just assume that he’ll be an honest President, someone who is truly sincere and dedicated in leading the filipino people to redemption. Sounds good right?! Now let’s take a moment and think if it really is possible....  Who's side is he in? GMA. Who appointed him as Defense Secretary? GMA. Who’s advise do you think he would still be follow after he won the presidency? GMA. Now ask me again if he is potentially a corrupt president.. :D do the math!

Winner : Noynoy

Round 5: http://gibo.ph Vs. http://noynoyaquino.com

Internet nowadays is one of the most popular media. So it's important for them if they have their own space in the internet. To boast their credentials and to share their opinions to the filipinos.

If you want more info about the two candidates for presidency.. you can visit their website.

Winner : I like Gibo's website better.. ganda ng banner eh.. tsaka may ".ph" sa domain name. haha. Patriotic. :D

Round 6: SWS Surveys

First SWS Survey conducted with Noynoy included. How come Gibo is not there?!?! Well don’t be surprised, Gibo is not doing very well in Surveys. I think after his announcement yesterday, we will see more of him in the survey. Hopefully, Gibo will give us a good fight.

Winner:  Noynoy

After 6 rounds of deliberations.. my winner is Noynoy  ( 4 out of 6 ). If ever you're wondering why I didn't even bother putting up their political platforms against each other or their plans on how to lead our country.. I mean, it sound like its sooo important.. but I really don't think it would still matter (basta wag lang yung plataporma ni Bayani Fernando. I'll be talking about that soon. ;D )

So guys.. please think well before casting your votes.

I personally believe the writer of this article makes sense. He is addicted so much to Philippine politics and totally forgotten his first love, Philippine Showbiz! Kudos to the writer for his fearless review on the status of politics here in the Philippines. Keep on coming Mr. David! (ay hinde ba to si David Garcia? eh sinong writer to???!!!)

I wish Noynoy would win this one. For a change.. I believe he won't be a corrupt president.

GIBO is the more competent one.
basing from his experiences in government, educational background, and his performance during his stay in the government.

Please conduct more research. Especially Ninoy being in the congress and in the Senate. What were the bills filed, and passed. Also, state what Gibo did as a DND secretary. I also think you were a little too biased on round4 (although you have said that it is your opinion but still, anyone who will read your posts could be affected), how can you easily say that GMA is corrupt? If she is why is she still in her seat? Have you taken into consideration what she has done for the country. I strongly suggest that you research more on the internet rather than relying your opinions on the local media. This coming election is really crucial. anyone who would read your post could be affected.

Note: Media and some surveys are not helping anymore as they become biased. Please also do check on their backgrounds.

pls do ur homework first...u have enumerated Noynoy's contributions to the congress but not Gibo's. Gibo in ur opinion did not put a good fight. 2nd, look at the aura of this guys...who is more attractive. 3rd, be objective and not subjective. why? u said admin is mas corrupt and opposition is corrupt. for goodness sake, cory and ninoy are both dead. they are not the oppositions. the people behind noynoy's are the oppositons. if you talk like that, we might as well speak of the parents of Gibo....GMA is not his MOM.

Hi Anonymous, would really appreciate if you would atleast put in a nick name but yup.. Thank you for your comment. As I have said earlier, this is my personal opinion and if you would notice that this is a personal blog.

So let me put in some comments of my own. (im really enjoying this so thank you again)

1. how can you easily say that GMA is corrupt? If she is why is she still in her seat? Have you taken into consideration what she has done for the country.
- Honestly, I cannot see anything from this post that's easily claiming GMA to be corrupt. So don't be so defensive. :D I did say that most if not all high ranking officials is corrupt, or atleast have selfishly used their positions for their personal gain.

I think it would be really dumb for someone to really believe that GMA is not corrupt..

2. I strongly suggest that you research more on the internet rather than relying your opinions on the local media. This coming election is really crucial. anyone who would read your post could be affected.
- I agree.. this would really be a crucial election for our country. as for me to research more than rely on my own opinion really is not the case here. If you would notice.. this post, even though i really did say Noynoy is the winner, this post is suppose to be just an additional information for those who want to know more about them, of course with a little bit of humor on the side so as not to bore the readers. But you know, this blog is not a public service and can be as biased as much as I want it to be. So I'm really sorry to disappoint you.

3. anyone who would read your post could be affected.
- then that means I'm an effective blogger. :D thanks!

Hi Anonymous no. 2. :D

I do agree when you said that Ninoy and Cory is not the opposition. thank you for that.

as for doing my homework.. well I really don't think I have a homework. :D these are purely my own opinion and posted only information that I currently have. if you see that the information is not valid or insufficient and a little biased then I'm sorry to disappoint you. :D You know there are other references if you really want to know what Gibo's contributions to the congress are. Oh yeah, why don't you help us out and post them here. share it with us why don't you. :D

also.. Who is more attractive?!?! what the hell are you talking about??

Reggie Balcos said...

Why don't you check this post as well. Comment away. I really appreciate your comments, even though it's a bit hostile. hahaha. :D

Nice Post.

There is no other way to say this. "Gibo is the better man for the presidency". I believe that the two most important issues surrounding both of the candidates are moral values and competence.

I like that you mentioned we need a younger and more idealistic president to run this county. I share this sentiment as I believe that we need something fresh, something new, a complete change from the old governments that we have in the Philippines. However, I do not agree that NoyNoy is the man for this.

Although, Noy is young, I have never seen any passion in him. He is not clear on his plans, not clear in his platform nor has he showed any quality of a true president. To be president, a person must be deserving not because of who his parents were but simply because people believe in the type of person that he is. A president must deserve it and must have proven that they will be able to be successful with or without the legacy of their parents. That person must have sacrificed and prepared because there is never an efficient short cut in this world. Noynoy has never done anything to make him Noynoy Aquino not just the son of Ninoy and Cory. He has not done anything in his own merit but has always lived in the shadows of his parents. That to me shows weakness in a person and definitely someone I cannot accept as my president. On the other hand, Gibo, although coming from a rich family does not have the political strength that Noynoy’s family had. He had to achieve what he has now on his own strengths and intellect. He is his own man and he deserves this shot for presidency.

See… in my opinion, Noynoy has been already been given a huge plus in politics because of his birth right, but he has not been able to achieve anything substantial. I am sure he wants to do a good job but he just does not have it in him. He does not have the basic skills to become a leader. The guy is not smart enough. This is evident when you hear him speak. Gibo on the other hand, has the charisma needed for a president, when you hear him speak he is well spoken, clear, concise and passionate. He is smart, the degree from Harvard proves that. Gibo does not have political parents, he is where he is today because he is good at what he does. That only should prove his competence over noynoy.

Finally, the issue of morality or more basic corruption; this is for me is a hard one, both candidates have clean records. They both come from wealthy families and don’t really need the money. They will both have corrupt people close to them. Some people say, no way Aquino will steal because of his parents, for me that’s not fair because that doesn’t prove anything. For me the best way to address this is by gauging a person’s personality and value set. It is a matter of gut feel, and for me, gibo is the man here again.

I cannot say that Gibo will be a clean president because only time will tell that as with any other president except maybe Erap. What I can say however, is that I respect Gibo more than Noynoy and I believe he has the skill set and passion to take the Philippines to the next chapter. Soo.. no for noynoy!!

Yup.. im actually voting for Gibo! :D

i think d n important to some filipinos yung political platforms...some of us don;t even care what's in store for us if whoever we're voting for or whoever will win this most seek job in our land ...we primarily base our decisions s popularity.. sna we vie for the better one.. and let it be one between Sen. Noynoy Aquino and Gibo Teodoro..i have high respects for the two..I, for one as a government employee, would love to serve the Filipino people with one of them as a mentor..Kudos for Gibo and Noynoy!!
